It would help to see the errors you are getting? Do you know which version you had before that was working? Which PPA? Is version 3.1.1.1 coming from that PPA or another PPA?
The default version was 2.34, I wanted to go to 3.1.1.1...here is the output from terminal

I am not exactly sure how it got like this, I removed the programs that caused the original removal...this is confusing
