Exclamation no sound just popping noises

    Hi all,

I can find information on no sound and on popping noises but nothing on having no sound but having irregular popping noises at the same time. It just started today and I have no idea why.

I have check volume control and the likes. Reinstalled the ALSA stuff. Disabled and re-enabled the sound hardware. I unplugged the webcam, which also has a microphone in it. Nothing gave me any improvement.

There is one deterministic way I know to recreate the popping sound, in 'sound preferences'->'output' switch between 'analog output' and 'analog headphones'.

I used the ALSA tool to gather a bunch of information which is available at: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=dd...cce16570ac5951

    Any support is greatly appreciated.

    Hi!

Could you please post your lspci?

    Use this code:

    Code:
    lspci -v | less
This will show the kernel driver, and other items as well in use for your ATI.
There are only 10 kinds of people in this world: those who know binary and those who don’t.

Re: no sound just popping noises

Here you go. Strange thing happened. Next time I booted everything worked fine, I had sound and there were no popping noises. The time after that, still fine, and now it's the same deal again. No sound, just popping.

Re: no sound just popping noises

I have rebooted three times, nothing changed. Turned of my computer for half a minute and booted it, and now it works...

I run windows 7 on this very same machine and never had a problem there so I do not suppose it would be a hardware issue. It seems to be a non-deterministic boot issue...

Re: no sound just popping noises

The problem reoccurred a day later but now it is gone again.

Annoying, not knowing what is causing it and when it will be back again.
    Anyone any idea?
