    You should be happy for having cloned your system. And as i mentioned above, it is all about testing right now. But that's the funny thing with linux: You would never loose a hard disk because of the tools its got, but you can messup what's written in a partition so bad, that even god would raise his hands up....!

    Successful Update

    Ok, don't know if time cured all ills, or if it was something else.

    Make sure you have ppa:ricotz/testing in your repositories.
    Go into synaptic and update ONLY gnome-shell from the ricotz ppa.
    Then click on Mark all upgrades.
    Apply.

    That's the formula that just worked for me. It is possible that gnome3-team updated something today and it was just lucky timing, you guys can figure that one out.

    Updated gNatty Pack

    Updated gNatty Pack.

    Most significant change is the addition of the weather extension. Slightly modified to coexist with all other extensions in the pack & eliminated the text, leaving only the icon & temp.

    Thumbs down Re: gNatty Gnome Live ISO

    If anyone is still suffering or struggling to recover after last nights update debarcle - follow the fix as listed above (and below)

    **EDIT

    Enable Gnome3-team & ricotz ppa

    EDIT**

    sudo service gdm stop
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
    sudo apt-get remove gnome-session
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-shell
    sudo apt-get install gnome-session
    sudo service gdm start

    Which should get you back into a "full" Gnome3 session BUT you might find your network is dead

    To fix it back up in synaptic (I'd had enough terminal by that time...)

    mark network-manager-gnome for complete removal and then you should find that network-manager is upgradeable so apply that.

    You should find you now have network access and the properly skinned network indicator popup. **EDIT The "working" network-manager will pull from the ricotz ppa EDIT**

    Tried that method, didn't work for me.

    Using the method a couple posts previous did.

    There's often a couple of fixes that come to light - and i've now joined you guys in ppa soup

    Gonna run a few more tests of the minimal script now as not sure it will react or require any fixes to be put in place - may put it in as a function so there is a 1 click fix Will see what I get on a fresh mini install - don't want the beast unleashed and leave a trail of broken systems
    Code:
    cd /fridge/beer | drink && fallover

    The commands to fire up a Gnome3 Session have also changed with the latest round of updates so if you find yourself without an option on the greeter to log in to a full Gnome3 Shell Session but are confident your system if not broken you can create a .desktop file (filename not important) in /usr/share/xsessions with the following contents:

    Code:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=GNOME 3 SHELL
    Comment=This session logs you into GNOME
    Exec=gnome-session
    TryExec=gnome-shell
    Icon=
    Type=Application
    X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-session-3.0
    Name[en_GB]=GNOME 3 SHELL
    Code:
    cd /fridge/beer | drink && fallover

    Very true, many paths leading to the same place. I think I've got ppa's that a lot of people aren't using so my problems might be mine alone.

    I just want people to continue using a system that for me works great.

    Can't wait, would really like to have a G3 shell only system. My attempts at removing things left a lot to be desired.

    Yeah, noticed that too, now my choice is simply Gnome, instead of the old Ubuntu GNOME Shell, or whatever it was. Thanks for the code.
