Unity launcher doesn't hide and icons will not re-size

The Compiz Setting page for Unity will not let me set the launcher to autohide or other hiding option, and the Experimental page will not let me reduce the icon size.

The lack of hiding is another as the left edge of windows can disappear under the the Launcher.

What is the cause of this ?.

When you say it won't let you, do you mean the options are disabled in CCSM? Or does it not work when you change the setting?

Are you using unity(3d version) or unity-2d?

I mean I change the settings in Compiz but they have no effect. I am selecting "Unity" not Unity 2D at the login prompt.

There has been a slight change in behaviour, the launcher is now avoiding windows - the launcher hides when a window touches it. It started doing this without me changing anything, and there is still no response to any changes made in Compiz.

I am using Nvidea Accelerated Graphics Driver (173).

Unity was working perfectly a couple of days ago.
