    Interesting security bonus of Ubuntu.

    I was reading the Ubuntu Wikipedia page when I came across this:
    Ubuntu, unlike Debian, compiles their packages using gcc features such as PIE and Buffer overflow protection to harden their software.[29] These extra features greatly increase security at the performance expense of 1% in 32 bit and 0.01% in 64 bit.[30]
    That's really cool , I wonder how one goes about this so now I'm gonna look into it further. Just thought someone might find that interesting.

    You don't have to do anything. Most packages are compiled like this already. You can read more about all of these features here. And, yes, I agree that it is an often overlooked security hardening feature of Ubuntu (and some other Linux distros).
