Sorry I hijack this, but will I be safe with a up to date ubuntu 10.10 install .. I don't run any server.. without the ufw enabled. I do have a router 'firewall' without exceptions

It would be better to start your own thread, but yes, unless you install a service (or enable remote desktop - DON'T do that), then you are safe without a firewall.

Actually, even if you install a service and want it publicly reachable, then you don't need a firewall.
