Yes, I also get that with KRDC (remote desktop client e.g. for VNC) as soon as I connect to a VNC remote desktop. No such problems though if I use any of the other VNC clients (tightvnc or xvnc4viewer).
I read something about the kernel being at fault for this!? So I upgraded my kernel ... the KRDC issue still remains, but the rest seems to perform better and is far more stable. I rarely experience any crash anymore.
What I did to upgrade the kernel is this:
- I upgraded to Kernel 2.6.39 following these instructions:
http://ubuntuguide.net/ubuntu-11-04-...el-to-2-6-39-0
- I then removed the GRUB options I mention above! e.g. the relevant line in /etc/default/grub now looks like this:
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1280x1024-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap"
The last few bits there from "nomodeset ... " onwards fixed the boot splash for me. Details here:

I now use this boot splash called "Earth Sunrise" ... It's beautiful:
