Question: How do I? Copy a DVD

Now that it is legal to make backup copies of my legally purchased DVD's what program would I use so that I could utilize them in library form for XBMC on my Ubunutu?

brasero will make exact copies of discs, i assume it will work fine with dvd's but you'd need to make sure libdvdreader4 and libdvdcss are installed

k9copy works good too. I've got a tutorial I wrote about it a year or two ago: http://davestechsupport.com/blog/200...-ubuntu-linux/

It is a bit out of date; I should probably re-write it. I'm not sure if that command I have in there for installing Medibuntu is valid. But the rest is fine.

    thanks for the replies.

These applications will decrypt commercial dvds? Basically I have a small DVD collection mainly kids movies that my son wants to watch 1006 times. I want to copy the dvd to my harddrive and allow him to watch it till the hard drive crashes.

    Thanks

    Decryption not needed

For copying, decryption is not needed. It's just a stream of data. Decryption is only needed for playback.
