Desktop theme for good "big screen" experience ?

    Hi all,

I have assembled an "old" PC I want to attach to my 32" Sony TV. Mainly for browsing, watching videos, playing casual games.
Is there a special Desktop theme suited for big screen ? In other words: Big icons, big text ?

Not shure if Unity helps out here. I would be willing to install another desktop manager (e.g. XFCE, KDE) than Gnome if it provides such features.

Firefox for examples supports increased font size for browsing. For shell I've played around with guake and font sizes around 20 pix.

It just would be nice to have "enlarged" menu entries.

    TIA,
    Holger

Best to set screen resokution to 1024 x 768

That is the best browser size in any event
Everything looks fine other resolutions are either not compatible with tv (may get a message on the tv saying mode not supported) or makes browser pages look to small.

TV 9 feet away no problems reading text etc

doesnt matter whether your using windows, ubuntu or openssuse.

Icons can always be made small or larger but my experience is that it looks fine from the off.

    Thanks for your reply !

IMO 1080p is the best resolution for a full HD screen

All digital display sucks in interpolating resolutions. They provide maximum sharpness only when driven in native resolutions.
