    While booting, press the shift key repeatedly.

    The Grub Menu should come up.

    If it does... Press the "e" key > that should put it into an edit mode.
    Arrow down to the kernel boot line - starts with "linux."
    Arrow right to where it says "quiet splash". Add "rescue > Press <cntrl><x> to boot with those options. That should bring you up in a rescue mode so you can boot in failback mode (safe- low-graphics.)

    When you get booted rename or move your xorg.conf file to soemthing or aomewhere, just so it is not found on bootup. Example:
    Code:
    sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf ~/xorg.conf.old
    While still in the safe-mode go to ATI and download the Catalyst "11.8"... Yes I know this is not tthe newest(11.9). Look in their archives/older drivers!

    Look at and print these instructions: Post #334
    Code:
    sudo service gdm stop
    Follow those instructions. The first part of those those instructions will uninstall and purge any old drivers... before the install.

    Thanks, again, MAFoElffen.

    I replaced my /etc/X11/xorg.conf with your text (by copy/paste in vim.) And now Xserver fails to load. A clip from the end of /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

    Sorry for the delay... Just spent 4 hours updating my Win OS'es and their applications. (argh!) Glad to be back in a Linux environment!!!

    I edited the changes in post 631. Sorry. Had in extra EndSection line in there

    Wouldn't that be easier by booting editing from Gedit? If no local GUI then from LiveCD? Just thinking of what might be easier for you...

    Missed this in the pile...

    Boot on a LiveCD. Select "Try" at the menu. Open Gedit. Open /etc/default/grub. Make the changes that are highlighted in red:
    Code:
    # Editted snippet only...
    GRUB_DEFAULT=0
    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=""                      # was 0, removed comment character.
    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false              # was true
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
    That will hardcode force the Grub2 menu to display...

And ironhide basically uses acpi_call to turn it on and off, but it may do something to grub, I think, can we check if it has edited something? I don't know where it'd store the changes and i don't have the originals to maybe compare them.
    Haven't heard from you nor Jim in 2 days... Are we getting anywhere?

    On my part- still researching and going through the code of ironhide, bumblebee, asus_bumblebee, vga_bumblebee and acpi_call... Eye's getting really tired. Will have to stop for tonight.

    Re: Graphics Resolution- Upgrade /Blank Screen after reboot

    First let me explain that while I am having issues with video drivers on my Mythbuntu machine, when the GUI is black or garbled, I ssh into machine to make config file changes. At which time I use vim in a terminal. I'm just use to vim.

    Second, . . uhm, post 631? . . . . . Sorry.

    I use to be admin for a small, small company. I hated updating the windo$e machines, too! Re-start, load, re-start, load, restart . . . . well you know!
