synaptic package manager slow in 11.04

i have a cable internet connection and i usually download things very fast, i've recently done a clean install of the new ubuntu 11.04 natty narwhal and now i'm trying to use synaptic package manager and it's downloading extremely slow ( like 11 kb/s currently when i'm used to megabytes per second.

Everyone is either doing that or trying to download - I'm sure once the mad panic rush is over it'll be fine
