I will have to think about this. Too bad it doesn't have an Ubuntu logo or Linux Penguin, but even then I would want to call it the 'Ubuntu' Key or 'Penguin' Key, not the super key (unless the Penguin was wearing a cape - that would make a difference!).

Yeah, gonna need to think about this.

Too bad the key has that darn Windows logo on it; makes calling it by another name so much harder.

It seems that you do, Hedge; you left off the "==" at the end of aG93IGRvIGkgdWJ1bnR1Pw=='s name.

I'd love to know what your name means, aG93IGRvIGkgdWJ1bnR1Pw==.

OK - you caught me 'fair and square'. I was too busy being silly to notice I had dropped the "==".

p.s. Paddy Landau - in all seriousness, should I be referring to that key in another way?

I was looking through the options on this. I know that whatever desktop style you chose last is the one it defaults to next time.

I did dig around in the 'Users and Groups', but I did not find any way to set it there. It may be there and I have missed it, though.

I don't think there is any "should" to it. Just use what you believe is the most helpful. As the vast majority of users come from a Windows environment and use an ex-Windows machine, it makes sense (to me) to use, "Windows key."

I think, in general, people who can afford a Mac probably stick with Mac, as they are reliable machines. I imagine that most Windows users come to Linux because they're fed up with paying for a lack of reliability and having to upgrade their machines every three years.

If you want to be pedantic, try, "the Windows key (known in Linux as the Super key or on the Mac as the Apple key)."

I like it. I will make the adjustment now.

    Thanks very much!

    Hey, it's a pleasure.

I downloaded 11.04 and booted from a Live USB. The sidebar is less difficult than I thought it would be. Having the settings on the power button is surely bizarre. It just doesn't belong there! But I guess it won't take long for people to get used to it.

How long do you suppose (in your opinion) would it take an average user to get from slow to as-fast-as-I-was-on-10.04?

System -> Administration -> Login Screen
Unlock the menu by entering your password and select Ubuntu Classic as the default session.

    Cheers.
The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots.
