    Hi Hank, I'm using a dual boot with the Ubuntu boot loader as default, and I had the exact same problem at first until I figured out that you have to install grub on the gentoo partition for Ubuntu to locate it....just skip the last step "grub-install --no-floppy /dev/sda". Once you have emerged grub and edited /boot/grub/grub.conf, then try running update-grub in Ubuntu again....should all work automatically now

    Thanks for the tip. I was pretty leery about trying anything like that since Ubuntu and Gentoo are on different Grub versions (unless that's changed.) I'll have to give that a shot.
