Question New GPU - will it solve tearing?

Hi, I'd like to switch from windows to ubuntu but I have just one requirement: no tearing. If buy a new GPU (nvidia gtx 460) will I get any artifacts or is it like a lottery, unavoidable? I'm asking because despite what I hear about nvidia cards I got some tearing problem on my testing platform (natty, mbp 5,1 8600m gt). Thx in advance for all answers.

If you can enable v-sync, then tearing 'shouldn't be a factor. If you can enable v-sync triple buffering, so much the better.

Granage, yes I read about it unfortunately it has no effect on my mbp, when I watch movies on my mbp, from time to time a horizontal line becomes visible. My desktop has rather old amd gpu which I would like to replace with a new nvidia card but I don't wish to have the same artifact on my desktop.

I was trying to figure out some kind of pattern but it seems some nividia cards are affected and some not... trying to verify it.

I have XBMC on our media centre, and it's got an ATI graphics card. There was some tearing until I enabled V-sync; if I had a choice, I'd get an nvidia card. Modern cards are pretty good at handling digital output.
