    Question I want to switch. this is what i have any problems?

    -600 Watt
    -Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6700 (4x 2.66GHz/8MB L2 Cache/1066FSB)
    - eVGA Nvidia nForce 780i SLI Chipset
    - 4096MB [2048MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400
    - 2x NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 512MB
    -500 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache]




    That is what i have and right now i am running windows vista 32bit i have games and a lot of expensive programs and gadgets like my wacom tablet

    I don't think you'll have any problems with that configuration. Use the 64-bit version.

    You will want to run the Restricted Drivers tool after installation to install the nVidia restricted drivers. It will offer you that soon after your first boot. And after you do, your splash screen will look kind of ugly, but that's fixable if it bothers you.

    Other than that, you should be good to go.

    Don't expect much gaming, or running of those "expensive" programs.

    Ubuntu is NOT a drop in replacement for Windows.

    Good catch. It didn't occur to me that he might expect to use his "expensive" software on Ubuntu. I thought he just meant he was tired of paying.

    Then it would be wise to set up as dual booting, at least until you know if you can run all those in Wine or VirtualBox. And trying them is the only way to find out for sure.
