    Windows Virus Removal

I have Windows 7 partitions and Ubuntu 10.04 installed on a single hard drive with dual boot. The Windows has been infected by a fake MS Malicious Software Removal Tool (so much for the free internet security suite). Does this virus endanger the Ubuntu partition and can Ubuntu be used to remove it?

You can install bitdefender, there is also a recovery ISO that can be put on a cd or a thumb.

As far as i know, ubuntu wont be affected by windows virus. You can install clamav in your ubuntu machine and make a scan in your windows partition. So that there is a possibility to get rid of that virus.Try it

Assuming your PC can boot from a CD drive, you would do better going to Kaspersky Labs site, downloading and burning their FREE Rescue CD.

When you launch that, be sure to do a definition update right away.

Kaspersky is one of the BEST Windows AV tools out there.

Also, if you suspect a root kit, while at their site, look for the TDSSKiller download. Once you do virus clean-up on Windows, you should run that to find and remove rootkits.

Thanks for all your help and advice. In the event, we decided we hardly use Windows so we just deleted everything and did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.04
