    Heat sinks question

Essentially my question is, is one heat sink as good as the next?

I have one off a socket 462 CPU will it work to cool a socket 754?
I don' really like coffee. I guess I'll give my Ubuntu beans to my wife.

    Re: Heat sinks question

    Simply answers to your questions:

    No and
    No

Every brand and model has different specifications and therefore work differently.

Every processor type does require different mounting hardware, so a heat sink that fits a 462 CPU most likely will not fit a 754 CPU.

You need to at least match your CPU type with the heat sink.

Other requirements to look at are: form factor, noise level, cost, quality etc.

BTW never remove a heat sink and then run the unit. You will just burn up your CPU.

I suggest you goto your favorite on-line store and check the specifications on the various heat sink setups.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks for the info.

"You need to at least match your CPU type with the heat sink."
DO you mean AMD to AMD or socket type, if by some chance the mount did fit,
