Has anybody had any luck getting past Steam's "Updating Steam platform..." dialog in wine-1.3.15 on Natty?

It seems to remain at the dialog indefinitely (usually at around 30% completion). There's no unusual output in the terminal, what's the best way to find out what's happening?
