Post The battle bewteen MS & Linux is over. And the winner is...

With the one glaring exception of the desktop computer, Linux has outpaced Microsoft in nearly every market, including server-side computing and mobile, Zemlin claims.

"I think we just don't care that much [about Microsoft] anymore," Zemlin said. "They used to be our big rival, but now it's kind of like kicking a puppy."...

It's so true Windows is so open to exploitation because Windows isn't open source. Who knows how many 0day exploits are floating around for Windows 7. I have completely stopped using Windows for application development because the bottom line is you are always open for attack. The same could be said about Linux but I would rather use an operating system, by hackers, for hackers.

Glaring exception of the desktop computer.

    That's a pretty big @#$!ing exception.

+1 on that. I wouldn't declare victory before we see native high-end gaming on Linux.

It's easy to declare victory when you change the goal of the game.
If the only reason you think your software is better is because it's FOSS, you need to write better software

Is this another <OS> vs <OS> thread?

    Why?...

It is because people see it as "winning vs losing" that this kind of debate just chases its' own tail, and there's never a definitive "winner"...

    I agree with 3Miro.
If the gaming support was in place, Linux would start to run in circles around MS.
I can't see this happening in the near future though..

So I guess Linux desktop for now is bound to be the "average surfing users" desktop.

But it's working 99% for my needs, even if I'm a programmer, and are missing a lot of my favourite MS-related tools (Dreamveawer/Delphi/...) in Ubuntu..

Life is a game, you have to be present to win. So why doesn't the same apply to Businesses and Operating Systems? :V

    I... agree with glossywhite.

Winning is not really what open source should be interested in, and is hard to define any way. I would rather stay just enough mainstream I can do what I want, but less enough that my platform is ignored by the masses of low quality or malware ridden software.

Never knew there was a competition and if there was, then it wouldn't be over until one of the two has tapped out or died.

I use what works for me.
