    Finding lost items in Minecraft?

I recently took a fall too great in Minecraft and lost all my items - including some valuable items such as Diamonds, Redstone Dust, my Iron Pickaxe, sword, shovel and hoe. I'm wondering if there's some easy way to track down these lost items as I got myself lost while looking for those Diamonds and I don't want to get even more lost than I already am.

(Fortunately I had backups for my iron stuff and if I need to make another one I have iron ingots at my base, but I can't really find that either...)

there is no (legit) way of finding the place of death in minecraft. you could use some mods, but i believe they need to be installed before dieing. alternatively, restore from a backup (you do keep backups, dont you?).

the only way you could have done that is marking the place where you die :3

I hate dying in the middle of nowhere with no hope of finding my stuff, especially right at the end of exploring a large cave system when I have lots of diamond/gold/iron/etc. It's just part of the challenge of the game.

I ended up finding more diamond in that same mine I found the valuable things (ended up digging into it through a tunnel I started in my base) and crafted the entire diamond set of tools, but the first batch of diamond I had is probably gone forever.

then again there is always the inventory editor for the desperate moments and to do something bigger in shorter time - like a really looooong railway system...
