HELP ME PLZZZ...MY NETBOOK doesnt sleep when closing the lid

HELLO GUYS...
ihave Acer Aspire one KAV10 intel atom 1.6ghz 1gb RAM 150 gb hd (dual boot ubuntu 10.10 & windows xp sp3 )

it was working very very nice ...
until 3 days ago ...i suffered form " BLACK SCREEN SUDDENLY APPEARS ..like if its in sleep mode ...BUT NOT RESPONDING TO MY KEYBOARD ORDERS !!!
AND I ALSO FOUND , that when i close the lid ...IT DOESNT GO TO SLEEP " although this option is checked in the "power management preferences" and it was working very fine in the previous versions of ubuntu ...
AND the screensaver...JUST WORK FINE ...BUT SHOW A BLANK SCREEN RATHER THAN THE USUAL IMAGES !!!
after searching ...i found a post with a bit similar problem ..and they suggest INCREASING SWAP SIZE !!!

some says its a kernel issue or a bug ...
IAM REALLY FRUSTRATED AND DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO !!!!

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

I have the screen saver issue too - sort of. It works most of the time but once in a while just goes black. Usually I just open the screen saver menu in preferences and select preview again (even though it is already selected) and it works. You could use the terminal: sudo gconf-editor and make sure everything is configured correctly.

my ubuntu version is " 10.10 netbook " and suppose kernel version is " 2.6.25.28"...
by the way i typed in the command you said...but i didnt know what to do , ijust dont understand the configuration editor !

by the way... i noticed that all this issue occured after updating ..and i think the update included the screensaver and gnome-power-manager ....
well....should i remove both and reinstal them or either substitute them ??????
