    Compiz Alternative

I'm trying to find some 3d cube and/or wobbly windows apps that aren't compiz, for my other distros whose environment conflicts with compiz (openbox).
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Kwin (KDE) does those as well. I am not aware of any other window manager with those features, but I don't know for sure.

Thank you, but i'm looking for something more like an app that doesn't require a specific environment.

What you are looking for is environment related. TMK there is no application that will do this only desktop environments.
Dell Inspiron 1764 Laptop, Intel CoreTM i5 520M), 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz, 512MB ATI Mobility RadeonTM HD4330 Integrated Intel HD.

    Re: Compiz Alternative

Compiz is a window manager. When you enable desktop effects in Gnome, what you are really doing is replacing the default window manager (metacity), with compiz. Because openbox is another window manager, it is not possible to run it at the same time.

There was something called xcompmgr that could add some effects like shadows and transparency to another window manager, but I don't know if it has been maintained - and it certainly can't do desktop cube or wobbly windows or anything like that.

If you want barebones, use Openbox. If you want pizazz, use Compiz or Kwin.

    Re: Compiz Alternative

theres cairo-compmgr. it could do menu/window animations, add shadows, and a flashy application switcher,etc....(and it seems smoother than xcompmgr)

//btw, no cube or wobbly windows

Good call. I couldn't remember the name of that one, either.

XsheepX, are you using LXDE, or just Openbox by itself?

I'm using Crunchbang, which uses the Openbox manager.
