    11.04 Beta Live-USB

    Hi everyone!
Today I decided I want to try the 11.04 beta came couple of days ago.
So, I downloaded the desktop amd64 (actually my processor is Intel Core i5 2500k, I don't know if that matters since its the only 64bit version I found)
So, I used Universal USB Installer to get this on USB. Currently there is no entry for 11.04 so I just selected "Try Unlisted ISO (New Syslinux)"
Then I booted from the USB, everything went well except for the fact that I didn't see the famous Unity launcher. There was just a ubuntu button of the left of the Panel that when I clicked on it it showed the menues.
Anyway, I created partitions and stuff and loaded the installer app. I chose my ext4 partition for ubuntu to install on (mounted as /) and everything went okay till the end when an error pops up (I am so stupid I forgot what was it..)
I was afraid of my new computer so I just deleted all the partitions.
Any ideas? Did someone also had it?

Since this forum is closed, please see that thread as the continue of the this thread

    Re: 11.04 Beta Live-USB

Did the error say something like the bootloader could not be installed? Or maybe that the installer crashed and "the following packages are in a broken state"?
Did you connect to the internet before you ran the installer? Try without, as I had to do. The second run finished ok for me (without installing updates as it went)

yeah there was something mentioning broken packages. also, if it is important to mention. i checked the "Download Updated While Installing" and "Install Third Party Software" options.
I will try to install without internet, thanks.
Also, what about the problem that I don't unity launcher? just the ubuntu button with regular menus. Will that be fixed after the installation?
Also, I want a shared partition between windows and linux, so I created a 100GB ntfs partition and I also want to locate my linux home folder there, should I mount it as "/home"?

Yes, try without those boxes checked - that worked for me.
Unity will only appear after 3D graphics drivers are installed.
If you want to mount the 100GB partition as /home you will need to format it to ext4 or similar. It is not really recommended to share a /home folder between distros, and certainly not with a Windows system. A separate data partition can be created which can be used by both systems, but not mounted as /home.

    Re: 11.04 Beta Live-USB

After installation there was no bootloader.
It was just black with _
    I have 4 partitions:

    Windows - /dev/sda1, ntfs filesystem.
Shared Partition - /dev/sda2, ntfs filesystem
    Ubuntu - /dev/sda3, ext4 filesystem
    Swap - /dev/sda4, linux-swap filesystem

Currently, just the Ubuntu partition is filled, with Ubuntu OS.

So I booted again to my live-usb, trying to reinstall grub with this command:
    Code:
    sudo grub-install /dev/sda
    but this returns this error:
    Code:
    /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot stat `aufs'.
    Any ideas?

    Re: 11.04 Beta Live-USB

Hmm, didn't go as well as we'd hoped then.
To install grub after installation it is necessary to first mount the Ubuntu root partition.
Please boot from the Ubuntu Live cd/usb and select "try ubuntu" then when the desktop is loaded make sure you have an internet connection and go to the site below and download the boot script to your DESKTOP and then open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > terminal) and run
    Code:
    sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh
This will produce a results.txt file on your desktop. Please copy the contents of that file and paste them in your next post between CODE tags. For CODE tags click on New Reply (not quick reply)and then click on the # symbol in the toolbar.
This will give a full overview of your current system.
    Thanks.
