11.04 no window manager, panels, unity or metacity

Hello i just installed 11.04 beta and it refuses to behave, i have no window manager or unity.
I didnt really expect unity to work right off since i am on a nvidia based card but metacity worked in the live cd, i cant figure out why its missing now that ubuntu is installed.

I was able to create a launcher on the desktop to enable metacity thankfully but now i have no panels, no menu, shortcut keys do not work and i am at a loss as to why it works in the live cd but not on the installed system, did an update rebooted still no window manager.

I had to navigate to usr/bin/ and launch gnome-panels manually.
Anyone can advise how i can fix all this so it launches automatically/enable unity (if at all possible for nvidia based cards)

Have you installed either nvidia drivers or the experimental 3D drivers for Nouveau?

It took a lot of workarounds to get this fixed, well three or four, i got unity and panel to run but not sure if its the 2d or 3d version, enabling compiz is now missing from the appearance tab so i dont know if hardware acceleration is enabled.

Is unity 2D installed? Check synaptic.
Also check System Monitor to see if compiz is running.
Which 3D drivers have you installed?

Its a nvidia 9800GTX so nvidia latest drivers (at least i hope they were) i also lost my wobbly windows.

@bpb101 The way i solved the panels problem was to create a launcher on the desktop the first one was the gnome-terminal, from there it was a matter of invoking the commands.

If you haven't got it installed already, install ccsm. Wobbly windows is an option in that. You can also check that the unity plugin is enabled.

Yes i have CCSM installed , i selected wobbly windows but my windows dont wobble, on selecting wobbly i get a message that snap windows conflicts so i disabled snap but still no wobbly.
It seems like i am using metacity although compiz is enabled.
