Serious problem with guide for desktop overhaul

I'm running Meerkat 64-bit (3 day newbie) and I've been following the following guide:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...4&postcount=39

From what I've been reading, I prefer to run Thunar instead but I can't get it to work. That's a question for another thread.

The real problem I'm having is that, skipping the whole part where you get rid of Nautilus, I come across this part:
    "into your favorite terminal application.

    Uncheck:
[ ] Use nautilus to draw desktop, close gtweakui, and hit
    Ctrl + Alt + Backspace
    "

Once I do that and restart the session, my desktop becomes completely messed up (see attachment) and nothing like what the guide says happens.

Anybody got any idea if the method has changed?

    EDIT: Forgot the attachment!
