    Looking for a Photo Editor

    Hi All,

Adding a few programs on to my laptop, one thing I need to tick off my list is a image editing program. I mainly want to be able to change light balances, touch ups, crop, formats and effects.

I have been searching for a program and have stubbled across a few. I am interested in your personal experience with a free photo editing program on Ubuntu/Linux. I would prefer to use Sudo or Ubuntu Software Center.

    Kind Regards

I think GIMP is already installed, if not just sudo apt-get it... it's a good alternative to Adobe PhotoShop ©®TM that has everything a photographer needs...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I hate Gimp!

    Thanks for the reply

I love Gimp, but I also really liked paint.net, so I cannot believe
I've never heard about PINTA before. Thanks a lot! It's excellent!
(Yes, it can be found in the Software Center.)

There are a few photo retouch based programs worth looking at.
I generally use Digikam for this 2.0 will be out soon and looks really promising. The other option I quite like is DarkTable.

    I really like paint.net also!

Now that I have a little time to do things I installed 10.04LTS alongside my W7. I do not need all the wizardry of GIMP right now so this find is great!

It's the most powerful image editor I know of available for Ubuntu. However, Shotwell can do almost everything you described, as well as F-Spot.

Thanks 23Dornet and Neon Lights, those programs look fantastic. I think I might go with Shotwell, its interface looks superb.

Yeah, that's the problem with GIMP. It's a sledgehammer when someone wants a jeweler's hammer. And it isn't simple to learn to use -- for a non-techie. I'm on the hunt right now for something simple for my wife to use. GIMP ain't on the list.
