Question How to access and modify Kernel

    Hey guys,

I am interested in learning more about my kernel and maybe modifying it for performance. I see alot of talk about kernel compilation and not to sure what that is. following this guide

    http://pnaplinux.blogspot.com/2010/0...linux-how.html

it seems simple, but following this one from ubuntu forums

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...8#post12541598

just seems so much more complex.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

fyi: running Ubuntu 12.04 desktop and have a Ubuntu Server 10.04 that if possible I would like to check out the source as well

I wouldn't use either of those guides.

The first one is tailored towards Red Hat and the second, although it is for Ubuntu is 8 years old. A lot has changed since then.

I would suggest reading the guide on the Ubuntu wiki...

you probably just saved me like 2 hours of work haha. Will start validating my pages better. Thanks man i will be looking over this now. I am also listening to a collegue of mine by installing debian in a virtual box to edit my kernel image and flash back over to desktop. Is this the right logic?
