    system76 laptop sturdyness

    hey

This is most likely a very stupid question.
But I have been looking at system76 laptops for a while now and was wondering how sturdy they are.

eg my current laptop feels flimsy and like plastic.
do system76 laptops feel strong and firm?
and is windows able to be installed without h/w & s/w issues?

    thanks

In my case yes, it feels very sturdy. It has weight without being heavy, not like a flimsy plastic toy. I don't mistreat it but I don't baby it either, I carry it in a backpack every day to work and to college classes with books. I mention this because the books apply pressure to the laptop pouch and I do not fear of damage to it.

As to your windows question, I'm sure you can run it using VirtualBox, but if you're planning something else I cannot attest.

I was actually curious what the laptop's case was made out of. Mac's cases are made out of Aluminum, correct?

Yeah, I'm heavily considering their 'Gazelle' model and this thread helps put my mind at ease after seeing a lot of non-metalic looking casing.

All of our cases are made of very strong Polycarbonate (possibly coated with rubber, depending on the finish).

I have a brand new Pangolin Performance. It feels very sturdy and well built. The keyboard sounds kind of hollow but it has a sold feel. I wold not compare the solid feel to the Metal Uni-body frame of the Macbook Pro or Air.

My PanP4, now about 3 (?) years old shows one hair-line crack in the corner of its case on the lid. The only other sign of wear is that I have a few keys where the lettering is worn off. That is OK as long as I don't look at the keys!

I do not run Windows so I cannot comment on Windows installation. I will say the materials on the S-76 web-site seem quite clear. I would not expect a problem if I decided to do the install. Judging from the User's manual this machine was built initially to support Vista.

Tech support from S-76 on this forum is first-rate.

My family all run Macs. When I really need to upgrade my "Cool Factor" I may be compelled to buy one. Short of that my PanP4 does very well for far less money. I am on it every day. If something did not wear well I would know about it!
