    Re: Unity, why bother?

It requires 3d acceleration similar to compiz. On some cards the mutter window manager it uses does not play well yet. I merely have an integrated intel graphics chip that is not very good at all.

I think that using it in 10.04 is your problem.

I didn't catch that he was on 10.04 (reading skills drop by 1 point!). That may be the problem, but Unity backports did work for me on there. Though do know it is a big alteration to your system. Unity is best designed to work on Maverick, and best tested.

I agree that screen real estate is a top factor for netbooks. I use a minimal desktop install on my netbook, and I just have a bottom gnome panel set on auto hide, and use google chrome so I try not to waste any screen real estate.

I like it, it is different. It took me a while to figure out how to open a nautilus folder though, there is a little button in the corner when browsing files in the launcher.

I will like it when they speed it up and allow for more customization. The overall idea is fine, it just needs a lot of work.

I just saw a video of this Unity thing, and i'm impressed!
I don't care much for netbooks, But i think this would be great on the normal desktop edition.
