    Re: Unity, why bother?

Where would we be without devs trying out new stuff? Maybe it will fail and get abandoned in a couple of releases, maybe it won't.

During the Maverick cycle devs made Unity usable (basic feature set, fixing tons of crashers), now it's time to make it awesome. Don't write it off, because Unity's journey isn't over yet.

And yes, you'll need some time getting used to it, but IMO there's no way to change the whole UI without introducing a (shallow) learning curve.

    Re: Unity, why bother?

With all the criticism about Unity, I haven't dist-upgraded yet on my netbook.

The netbook edition, coupled with gnome-do, is close to perfect for my needs. A smart way to maximize windows hiding the title bar, a keyboard driven experience (I rarely carry a mouse), and home folder encryption on top of that, what else could I ask for? I'm completely satisfied with it and therefore a little wary to upgrade.

    Does gnome-do work with Unity?

The clock calendar belongs to Evolution's calendar if I'm not mistaken, so yes, it would disappear if you uninstall Evolution.

    bummer!

Is it the same on the desktop edition?

I'm liking the Unity interface and I don't mind that I can't customize the panel but losing the calendar because of Evolution makes me think twice.

I read the same thing, I wonder if there is a way to do that now via a configuration file or something.

I am distracted by the colourful column of icons when I am reading text on the Internet. There should be only blank space to the left of text one is reading.

Which makes me wonder is it might work ok on the right hand side of the screen ...

I found good replacement for unity which sucks hard (I mean unity)..
I removed unity and mutter try to install old netbooks didnt work well, strange big icons..
I remove also and forgot to remove maximus, so now I have normal desktop and maximus in my eeepc 901 and its usable again !
