thanks, but im pretty new to linux so how would i go about doing that, and would that give me an identical copy of the linux partition or just a snapshot of it?
It would give you an exact copy.
I use clonezilla to do that.
You'd just need somewhere to store the image so you can restore it on the VM.

thanks! this makes life much easier, i just store the clone in my storage partition where it is acceptable from both os's
