I assume you read my post just above.

    First, load the module:
    Code:
    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
Any errors, complaints, etc.? Check for clues in the log:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep ndis
    iwconfig
Once we have more information, we'll proceed.

I have followed the steps in this thread and my N300 is still not working in ubuntu. This error may make more sense to someone else here.

Do you have any other options for wifi? Maybe an internal wifi slot that could be used with a card supported by linux?

I have a very similar device, if not the exact same and the performance with ndiswrapper is less than stellar. Check
    Code:
    lsusb
    My device is as follows
    Code:
    Bus 003 Device 053: ID 0846:9020 NetGear, Inc. WNA3100(v1) Wireless-N 300 [Broadcom BCM43231]

I have the exact same card you have. Can you please help me get ndiswrapper to work with it? Performance doesn't have to be great, this is my only option.

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

Well you need to download and extract this file http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum...4bit_v2.tar.gz
and then [code]sudo apt-get install ndisgtk[code] Then look for a windows wlan program in your programs, once you run it you can choose to install driver and find location you extracted the Broadcom bcm43xx file and then everything should be automatic

I've been working on this for so long now, that i'm prolly gonna need an 80's montage soon! I've followed various threads to get Linux Mint 17 and the N300 adapater to work, but nothing is working. I've installed every possible-related package there is and have tried over 4-5 various drivers, including my extracted Windows INF.

I was HOPING that Linux had changed from 10 years ago, when i had similar hardware issues, but i guess theres just no changing the fact that it will always have driver issues. /sadpanda

    SLIGHTLY OFF-TOPIC EDITORIAL

Linux will, indeed, always have driver issues, but for several reasons that may not be apparent to all of us. First, new devices are developed and released every day. The manufacturers are in a constant arms race to have a better device with more features and, often, cheaper. In almost every case, they have no concern for the 1-2% of Linux users and therefor don't provide a working driver.

Second, most new Linux users come to the party with what they have now that they bought with working Windows drivers. That device may work well or not at all in Linux. Experienced Linux users always check the forums and are sure the device works in Linux. Mrs. Chili hates it when we walk through the store and I make remarks about items in the computer department; "Those Netgears are tricky even in ndiswrapper."

In your case, veji, the answer is in the log, as problems often are.
ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:141): kernel is 64-bit, but Windows driver is not 64-bit;bad magic: 010B
You loaded bcmn43xx32 but, since you have a 64-bit system, you need bcmn43xx64. Erase the file you have now:
    Code:
    sudo ndiswrapper -e bcmn43xx32
    sudo rm -rf /etc/ndiswrapper/*
Now load the 64-bit file from here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...3#post11838453

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

Hello every one, I got one for the Savvys
I have installed the drivers and the lsubs -l does list the NetGear addapter
in the Windows Wireless Drivers app, it does get the driver as installed
Why is it not connecting to ubuntu? I cant seem to get it detected by the OS

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

    Post terminal results from
    Code:
    uname -a
    Code:
    lsusb
As there are quite a few of these adapters using different chipsets
