    Exclamation File help

    hay foke how are ya all?

    im trying to customize my destop now and it says that i dont have permision to add or change the files

    i went in to properties and it say root owns it!!!?

    how do ya get to change it!!!?

    do not change the ownership of those files. instead you can become
    'root' for a short time.

    press ALT+F2 and execute the command
    Code:
    gksudo nautilus
    to open the filemanager as root.

    right ok ive been into that and ive change the file permision to allow me to add files and such like but now when i click system tab at the top,the sub menu i.e appearance wont work!!!

    i tryed to get into root but that would load up either!!

    any ideas!?

    Please rephrase your question. I don't understand what you mean or want to do.

    Also, as a beginner, you can read this tutorial:

    These are just 8 little pages with all the basics of Linux (including permissions and user rights). The tutorial is via command line, but every distro has some GUI tools to do the same thing. It's just easier to learn the commandline because that doesn't change.
