Question Need help booting from CD on a MacBook

    Aloha all,

I'm trying to let my college daughter try out Ubuntu on her MacBook. I fooled around with Ubuntu on my Windows machine a fews years ago, but never got too far and gave up on the "experiment" unfortunately.

I really don't know Macs ... as far as I know, her machine is running OS X. I used the Mac to burn the Ubuntu ISO to CD, and verified the folders/files are on the CD (visible on the Mac). But when I try to boot from the CD (cold boot, holding down the "C" key), the Mac never boots up ... just sits at the little underscore prompt at the top left of the monitor.

    Any help?

    Thanks,

    Steve

check to see if you burned the "image to the CD" and not a "data CD". i know i might seem like captain obvious but it's a common enough mistake. also, check the md5sum on the iso, in ubuntu it's as easy as doing:

    Code:
    user@something$md5sum Ubuntu-something.iso
on the mac, i don't know... never used one but it might be similar, so i can't comment on the technicalities of booting from CD on one either.

    could be a dangerous "experiment"

just sits on the blinking "_"

    could be a bad cd??
