    GNOME keeps on reseting

    Hi everybody,
I have a little issue here. Im running Ubuntu 10.10 .And sometimes when I boot my screen looks like from 1990. So I chose System->Preference->Appearence and chose the Ambience theme. All the bars and panels looked OK but when I try to search through the filesystem all the windows look like this (picture included).

I found on the internet how to reset the whole GNOME

    Code:
rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity
Worked good. Ive restored all my setting and Compiz. but after a few boots the problem is back and keeps on appearing

I'll be grateful for any help/advice

And also metacity seems to reset randomly. Sometimes I find the close, maximize, minimalize on the right side, sometimes it gets back to default left side..

    See this ongoing megathread:

To easily control the settings of the title bar buttons, try the script I wrote earlier:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10115754

I use it really often, since most themes specify the button order, and if you are not aware upon selecting the theme or you select it through the "Customize" dialog, the order gets quickly changed.
