It's going to depend on your usage. Also, how old is your machine.
I'm usually plugged in, but I understand that my new Panp7 is expected to last around 1.5 hours.
I decided to keep my panp7 (about a month old, now) on to see how long the battery would last, so, while watching a hockey game, I made sure the screen stayed on until it was down to about 5% - it took 2 hours and 5, maybe 10 minutes. The usage was not particularly heavy, as I was just chatting with friends, websurfing, and doing some writing.
smarm!
Basically I'm taking notes and doing light web browsing, and it dies in an hour or so. Kind of disappointing for almost a grand.

System76 Pangolin Performance - panp7
Intel Core i5 560M (2.66 GHz) - 8GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 4570, 512MB GDDR2
80GB Intel X25-M-SSD - Ubuntu 11.04
Depending on age, one to 1.5 hours is about on par for the Pangolin. Two would be exceptional.
My setup is a panp7, with doing nothing major other than surfing the web lasts for only 100 minutes... 1%/min... the laptop is brand new, I've had it for a week, but it is a core i7.
It's my one and major issue with this laptop...
That's about on par with our estimates. Mine's a year old with the i7-840QM. I don't treat the battery very well, and it lasts about an hour now. You're within normal range.
