    will natty override my desktop?

Hi guys. Right now my ubuntu desktop is perfect. Avant navigator really suites my needs. Question is: When natty comes out, if i click the upgrade...will it broke my desktop? Because unity is totally different.
or can i just disable unity as i did with gnome panels?

You will be able to choose not to use unity from the login screen.
Also most of your configurations will remain the same as those config files will still be there, it is just when there are other programs or versions of programs that rename the config files or change the paths to the configs that will give you harder time, but I doubt you'll get it from any of the programs you consider part of the desktop and more as part of the software you install... even though there is no actual difference between those groups of programs.

So Im saying you'll be most probably fine.

I should add that taking backups of config files you want to be absolutely need to have unchanged.

go into your home folder and reveal the hidden files by holding down ctrl+h in nautilus (the file browser) and copy the folders with . (dot) in front of if they have the configs you want to keep the same.
