    Accessing Digital Camera Photos

    Hello all.

I tried finding information about this issue, but it seems that I hit a wall every time I try this.

    I have a:
Bus 002 Device 015: ID 04cb:01bf Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd FinePix F6000fd/S6500fd Zoom (PTP)
camera and I am trying to get it working with Ubuntu. I started having this issue from Ubuntu 10.04 (included), now I am on 10.10 with the same problem.

When I start F-Spot and try to access the camera from the import button it says: Received error "Could not lock the device" while connecting to camera.

    And /var/log/messages gives this:
    Feb 14 09:50:30 razvan-desktop kernel: [ 3845.808959] usb 2-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 16
    Feb 14 09:50:30 razvan-desktop kernel: [ 3845.962084] usb 2-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
(in dmesg there is no entry about the camera whatsoever, no sd.. not nothing, and of course there appears no icon on the desktop / nautilus to interact with; preferences from nautilus are: "Ask what to do", which does nothing...)

Also, starting f-spot from the terminal gives this error:
Error Lock: LibGPhoto2.GPhotoException: Could not lock the device
    at LibGPhoto2.Error.CheckError (ErrorCode error) [0x00000]
    at LibGPhoto2.Camera.Init (LibGPhoto2.Context context) [0x00000]
    at GPhotoCamera.InitializeCamera () [0x00000]
    at MainWindow.ImportCamera (System.String camera_device) [0x00000]
    cleanup context

I have no idea what to do anymore...

Hopefully there is someone there that can help me, thank you.

I can't help you with the USB, but might I suggest you take the SD card out and plug that into the computer instead? If you don't have an SD card reader, you can get USB ones for <£10. It'll be much faster than accessing the camera by USB cable too.

Sorry if you've already though of this and have reasons for not doing it...

Yes, well... the thing with this solution is that it doesn't solve the software problem, which in my opinion is important. (I thought about it yes, but I was waiting for a solution, because this problem... appeared which means that prior to version 10.04 there was no problem and I thought that it is not that difficult to revert / check out the older code of the kernel that worked).

The thing is... If we are going to buy new Hardware for things that do not work in Linux, then we might as well go back to Windows... (which by the way I don't want to)... I want to make Linux work

But thanks for the reply at least.

I doubt that this will work, but I'll give it a go after I get home. Thanks for the idea.

So.. I finally could try the digikam thing.

As I suspected, this also doesn't work, and this application doesn't give any information about what's going on (in the terminal), I get only this:

If you have any ideas... or know of workaround for this bug (except card-readers)... please help?

open digikam via terminal by typing digikam then hitting enter.

    now connect camera.

copy and paste the end results from terminal.

edit: once digikam is up, click import, hover over cameras, select camera!

i get no errors, example of my terminal output
