    No soundcard recognised in 10.10

I'm very new to Linux and I like the system now that I'm getting used to it. I'd like it more though if I could have my music back!

The system doesn't recognise either the on-board sound or a freshly fitted sound card that I installed last night [Soundblaster 5.1].

I've tried the various fixes that are suggested on threads around here for this type of problem, but as yet no joy.

    Any suggestions are most welcome.

Re: No soundcard recognised in 10.10

Still working on this and I've come across this:

    !!ALSA Version
    !!------------

    Driver version:
    Library version: 1.0.24.1
    Utilities version: 1.0.24.2

    !!Loaded ALSA modules
    !!-------------------

    !!Sound Servers on this system
    !!----------------------------

    Pulseaudio:
    Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/pulseaudio)
    Running - Yes

    ESound Daemon:
    Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/esd)
    Running - No

    !!Soundcards recognised by ALSA
    !!-----------------------------

!!PCI Soundcards installed in the system
    !!--------------------------------------

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
07:00.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster
Can anyone shed some light onto why Alsa doesn't recognise my sound cards?
