    Thank you all guys!!!
    I followed this script step-by-step,
it worked for me 100% with no issues on a HP 630 Notebook, passed from an unknown Realtek chipset to "00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)" Now i have 2 analog 4.0 surround output channels that seems to be always muted, but the duplex output is working great!
In my last setup i could only hear sounds from headphones jack, and no mic working. Now the mic comes alive.

This thing was turning me crazy!

Here's my alsa information script output before this

The log is difficult for me to comprehend because I can't see where the exact error is. I'm sure there are differences in some package names and maybe the kernel module location.

Hmm: This package is not in the alsaupgrade script. I wonder why no one complained of this error before
    thnks! =)

    I Install this:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
    thnks!

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script Redux

    Hi there.

I install the alsa upgrade with no problems, now I can see all the outputs of my motherboard.

I have a Dolby Digital and DTS speakers system, and it's connected by a S/PDIF cable. In the alsamixer I can see it but I can't increase the level of it it just remains in "zero" I can adjust it (See attachment)

My motherboard is the Asus Crosshair IV, it comes with a Supreme X-Fi Integrated Sound Card, so it also comes with the S/PDIF output.

Also, this is the output from the aplay -L

    default:CARD=SB
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
    Default Audio Device
    front:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
    Front speakers
    surround40:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
    surround41:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround50:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
    surround51:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround71:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Analog
7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
    iec958:CARD=SB,DEV=0
    HDA ATI SB, VT2020 Digital
    IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output
    hdmi:CARD=Generic,DEV=0
    HD-Audio Generic, HDMI 0
    HDMI Audio Output
The IEC958 is there, so I really don't now what is wrong.

    Any suggestions??

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script Redux

Hi I'm trying to use this script to get HDMI sound working on my Zotac MAGHD-ND01-U.

The first step of the script -d fails with many packages not available. Attached is my log. Here is an example of one of the errors.

    Code:
    E: Couldn't find package alsa-tools

This is my first experience with Ubuntu and XBMC live. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks, Jack

    Re: ALSA Upgrade Script Redux

I'm getting an error while running the script in Oneiric:

    Code:
seq_clientmgr.c:27:28: fatal error: linux/smp_lock.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.
    make[3]: *** [fastdep] Error 1
    make[3]: Leaving directory `/opt/Alsa-1.0.24/alsa-driver-1.0.24/acore/seq'
    make[2]: *** [_sfdep_seq] Error 2
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/opt/Alsa-1.0.24/alsa-driver-1.0.24/acore'
    make[1]: *** [dep] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/Alsa-1.0.24/alsa-driver-1.0.24'
    make: *** [include/sndversions.h] Error 2

    ***************************************************************************
    *  alsa-driver-1.0.24 make failed
    ***************************************************************************
Edit: could it be that Oneiric is using kernel version 3?
    EDIT2: I found out smp_lock.h is missing, it was removed from newer kernel versions;
Can this be fixed? I got an older kernel version containing this file. Can anyone tell me at least where to put it?
