    HP Photosmart D110 scanning trouble

My computer recognizes the printer and has no trouble printing out any documents. The printer can scan papers to a memory card and makes copies just fine too. But when I select "Scan to PC" I get the message "Try scan from computer or see documentation. Press OK." Of course, the printer included next to no documentation, only the basic plug-it-in-and-turn-it-on instructions. Simple Scan said that it did not find a scanner.

Edit: Shoot, I probably should have posted this in "General Help."

Is it hooked up USB directly to the computer or to the network?

Re: HP Photosmart D110 scanning trouble

It is connected by a USB cable.

Also, I installed hplip. Here's its output:
    Code:
    user@user-desktop:~$ hp-check

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.10.2)
    Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
    1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
    2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
    3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

    Initializing. Please wait...

Re: HP Photosmart D110 scanning trouble

I figured out a workaround: I can still scan to an SD card, so I can use my camera to transfer the files from the printer to my PC.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any help they can offer to solve the problem I would be very grateful.

I bought the same printer, some days ago, and I'm also using ubuntu 10.04. The problem is that the hplip version of lucid is 3.10.2. The support for HP D110 was added in hplip version 3.10.5.

To correct it, add the Till Kamppeter's PPA to your repositories list and update hplip (the current version is 3.11.1). Then, check that the driver used for your printer is the correct one.

    My printer is working perfectly

Re: HP Photosmart D110 scanning trouble

Went out and bought a HP Photoscan D110 today. Downloaded and installed the from HP site: "hplip-3.11.1.run" and saved the very simple instructions to my Ubuntu 10.04 32bit netbook (system76) and then copied the file via thumb drive to my wife's Ubuntu 10.04 64bit desktop machine and installed it there. SimpleScan works!, printing works! Wireless works! Awesome printer indeed. I first tried to use a similar printer to set it up but the scanner didn't work. I am by no means an expert, but reading this forum before I bought this printer guided me to the right product for Linux. Thanks everyone!

Re: HP Photosmart D110 scanning trouble

Do I need to reboot or something else? I've done the PPA thing and the driver is correct, with the 3.11.1 version, but the scanner still doesn't work.
