Hi everyone,

Have recently reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 on my Alienware M5500 laptop. Problem is the only resolution I have available is 1680x1050, and I want to be able to select lower ones - 1440x900
ideally.

The nvidia settings window only has 1 resolution & refresh rate, the monitor settings window comes up with Unknown, 1680x1050 (16:10) & 50 Hz refresh rate.

I've added extra resolutions to the xorg.conf file to no avail. I've tried all three available restricted nvidia drivers available to me: 173, 96 & Recommended

Please help me, I'm getting frustrated to no end - I'm tempted to reinstall XP Home that came with the laptop just to get this stupid thing working.
