reinstalled ubuntu and messed up my system

i had a functioning dual boot system with windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10 and i went to reinstall ubuntu and managed to mess up the whole grub.
so when i boot i just get a "grub rescue>" prompt. the only way i'm even on here is because of the live cd, but i reformatted the ubuntu partition and went to reinstall ubuntu and the install hangs on the screen where i pick my username and password.
At the bottom above the progress bar (which isn't moving anymore) it says "Ready when you are..." and there's an option to go back to keyboard selection and time zone but from the username password screen of the installation the "forward" button is greyed out. please help.

i just solved the issue, did some searching on the internet, so simple i feel like an idiot, for others who encounter this problem...have to use all lowercase letters in the user name .
