    If you want to change the default config for intel mode set the parameters in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.asus1015pn.intel or use randr to setup the dual monitors. see here

    From now on i use the bbswitch kernel module (developed by the bumblebee devs) to manipulate the power state of the nvidia gpu in Optimus mode.

    I have also updated the "Tweak ubuntu for the EeePC 1015PN" Guide to Precise 12.04. Suggestions & Comments welcome

    Testing (for advanced users only)

    Following the release early, release often paradigm there is another new option in the 'Advanced' window called
    "Optimus Mode: Start Second Xserver on HDMI"

    This is still in Development and manual setup is required to make this work (hence the yellow status icon). It will start a second Xserver on the nvidia GPU and output to HDMI (Of course this will work only in Optimus mode and is an alternative approach to bumblebee)

    Requirements:

    - You need to install openbox and smplayer, and connect the powered HDMI device to the Netbook before selecting this menu option.

    - check that your Xserver is set to allow "anybody" in the "/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config" file:

    if the terminal output reads "allowed_users=anybody" you're ready to proceed.

    If not, open the file in a text editor and change the allowed_users Option to "anybody"

    Your long alphanumeric string WILL be different, thats ok. Now we need to add a new line and then exit to save it. So we type in (of course replace Your-alpha-numeric-string)

    - copy the configuration file for the Second XServer xorg.conf.asus1015pn.optimushdmi to /etc/X11

    - copy the config file smplayer.ini to /usr/share/acpitools/smplayer (you might need to create this folder first)


    As the name implies, the 'Second Xserver' command starts another xserver and puts the output directly on a connected HDMI device. You main X-Server on the laptop display will run in the background. You can switch between the two XServers with STRG+ALT+F8 or STRG+ALT+F9

    This approach has some advantages as compared to bumblebee:
    - vdpau is fully working
    - performance of the nvidia chip is much better as compared to bumblebee
    - less overhead

    NOTE: This is still new and might be rough around the edges, so please only give it a try if you know how to fix a broken system!

    So there might be a problem on your system. post the output of 'dmesg | grep bbswitch' and your syslog

    yes, that should also work. Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.asus1015pn.optimushdmi and change the screen to lvds (the laptop panel) see /var/log/Xorg.0.log)

    Then the new Xserver will start on the laptop. Use STRG+ALT+F7 and STRG+ALT+F8 to switch between the two x-screens.

    see 'dkms status' from the terminal. The old nvidia disable method via acpi_Call is sub-optimal because it can lead to a total system lockup. bbswitch is much better for this.

    i guess you already checked if the corresponding option is turned on in the Advanced window? if so, turn on logging to file, set to reboot in optimus mode, do the reboot and then attach the logfile it created as well as your 'dmesg' output.

    i will have a look why the xorg.conf for the optimus overlay xserver does not do what it should.

    ok i see your problem. During boot the nvidia module loads automatically and prevents bbswitch from disabling the card. You are the first person where this happens and i don't know why this happens in your case. It might be related to your Kernel. You can try to blacklist the nvidia module (so it does not load on boot time).

    also test if bbswitch works on your kernel at all.
    as root:

    remove all nvidia modules

    rmmod -f nvidia
    check that lsmod does not list the nvidia module any more
    now use bbswitch to disable the nvidia chip

    see the dmesg output if the power state got changed or not.

    New version 0.7.5 uploaded to the ppa. It should get installed automatically once you run a system update. To trigger such an update now use:

    The display settings script now checks if the nvidia gpu really changed the power state. This should fix the bug "PietroZ" reported.

    Also the display-settings script reads it s settings from the config file /etc/eee1015pn/ds.conf

    This file is a commented textfile. You can edit it manually or use the provided VGA-Selector gui.

    The conffile won't be overridden when updating the package so your custom defaultgpu and nvidia power state ect. will survive a version upgrade.

    I kind of solved my problem, I tried to have the resolution set automatically with xrandr, but it always reverted back to using the laptop display only. I was wondering if there is anything automatically run at startup that might do this and the only thing remotely close to that was the "jupiter restore configuration" setting.
    I unchecked that and I am back again to automatic detection of my two displays. Now the question is, do I actually need that "restore configuration" feature at all or can I leave it off? I tried to set everything up with the jupiter tool, but it does only know the mirror mode for two displays, so not good enough for me.
