    Tilde in file path

Probably silly question of the day but what does the tilde in a filename mean for example ~/filename?

    Thanks

    It's a kind of shorthand:
    Code:
    ~/filename
    is equivalent to
    Code:
    /home/yourusername/filename

tilde is the same as $HOME (which is useful to note for when ~/ doesn't work in command lines you can fall back on $HOME/)
