Nothing happening with Places = Bookmarks = Documents.

Dear Ubuntu, I have been using Ubuntu 10.10 on a ToshibA QosmiO G20 since it came out 'love it really do' but I seem to have a little problem since yesterday when I go to Places 'top left on the screen' to get access to Home folder or Bookmarks I don't seem to have access any more. The only way I can get to my bookmarks + Photos Videos and the rest is to go to computer 'top left on the screen' then I have access to my bookmarks.
So in short when I go to Places = Bookmarks = Documents and click on the popup window nothing happens.

It is not a serious problem but never the less I would like to have access to my stuff like before.

it could be problem with file associations...
right click on any folder on the desktop (create it you don't have one) > open with other application > use custom command > nautilus > check 'remember this application for"folder" files'
