Have you tried: Windows->Recently Closed Docks?
Sick of cd'ing to a folder? sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal Log out then back in. Right click in the folder, select Open in terminal
Need to compile something? sudo apt-get install build-essential

    Maybe this will help: http://docs.gimp.org/2.6/en/gimp-concepts-docks.html

There are various ways to set up your windows/docks. Just have a play with the different ways of setting it up to how you like it, just drag things out. You can't break anything, it's all reversible.
