How to edit pdf properties?

Problem:
I often do research based on litterature reviews, which involves having multiple PDFs open at a time. Since most authors don't bother editing their metadata, the PDF's window title (which appears in the window list, for exemple) is often pretty random and doesn't help me identify the PDF, so when navigating to my pdfs I often have to cycle through them before I find the one I'm looking for, because I don't see their names.

What I need:
Some software or hack that allows me to edit the pdf properties / metadata so I can just change their title to something relevant, (tried pdfedit, can't find any metadata editing function)
OR
Some other workaround that allows me to rename the window title

Don't tell me I can just learn by heart which is what in my window list, I constantly close/open new ones so it's too much of a mess

Once you have found the right file and opened it, use File ->Save As and simply rename more appropriately. Or use nautilus and the right click Rename option.

Thanks for your quick reply, but I already rename my pdfs to a very explicit name, and what appears in the window title is not the filename but the "title" from the pdf metadata (unless it is empty, which is rarely the case)

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

It works so much better now, I'm no longer lost in my open pdfs. Little things like that make all the difference in the world! Such a time saver.

Have you managed to get this new version to work? I had the older Sun version, 1.0.1, then tried the newer Oracle version, 1.0.4, but all pdf files simply produce garbage using the Oracle version in the OOo application. I have gone back to the older version and all is now OK, but I wonder if this is just a problem I have, or if others have also seen it.

PS: This is in OOo standard ubuntu install of 10.04 Lucid.
