Harddrive is a mess; installed ubuntu, no grub!!

I tried to install Windows7 today with an already cluttered hardrive. I succeeded but lost ubuntu, so I reinstalled Ubuntu alonside the existing operating systems and lost Windows7, I tried to reinstall windows 7 and there is nowhere on the partition to install it. Now what?

I'd like to have only two operating systems here; Windows 7, and Ubuntu. Thanks for your help.

I tried to fix it myself. Rebooted it reads "no boot signature found in partition, operating system not found. I know there are more operating systems than I want though. Unfortunately I can't continue repairs until I have an operating system to work with. Suggestions?
It won't boot off of disk either now.

can you post your system specs that you are using? not certain I will be able to help you, but if your computer isn't booting the grub bootloader, it may be an issue specific to your hardware.

I should be more specific on what should be posted. system board model number if not a generic prebuilt system. also confirm what version of ubuntu you are attempting to istall, ie 10.10 netbook etc. I know there are issues if you try to install windows ontop of a system if you aren't careful, but usually installing ubuntu ontop of windows is easy.

It will tell you how to Dual-Boot with Windows. Don't worry about XP (in that guide), it should be the same concept.

I think it's lucid lynx. I don't know what those other things you asked for are. I've had everything working on it already, so I seriously doubt it's hardware.
is there a command to get the info you need, or do I need to flip my laptop over?

Are you able to boot any Live CD or Live USB?

We need to gather some info, specifically the output of the Boot Info Script as described here:

But you'll obviously need to be able to run some Live media.

you might start gparted to see what you have ,it will show if you have Windows ntfs partition and/or ext4 linux partition ... maybe you could post a screenshot ..
