Question Which All-In-One printer to buy?

I am considering buying an All-In-One printer. From the nearby shops, I am considering these four models:

    - Lexmark Interpret S405
    - HP Officejet 4500 Wireless
    - Canon Pixma MX340
    - Epson SX610FW

Does anyone have any experience with All-In-One printers in Ubuntu?

I am mainly interested in scanning documents to pdf from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), through WIFI (as we have 2 computers from different people).

I have read here that there are problems scanning over WIFI with the Lexmark printer, besides the printer is supposed to support Linux. Not sure if that can be solved in any way. Anyone has a different experience?

And, what about the other AIO from HP, Canon and Epson?

    Thanks!

    Jose.

Re: Which All-In-One printer to buy?

My HP Photosmart C5480 AIO Non-Wireless seems to be handled OK.
    It's now on a dual boot system (Win7/Ubuntu 10.10).

My personal feelings/experience in the past is Lexmark Ink cost was $65 for a $40 printer.

I did not like a Brother AIO wireless 480? its software was a pain with Windows so you could imagine what it would be like in Linux.
The printer also started to print black poorly with Brother Inks, eventually I sent it to pasture. I could never get Ubuntu 9.04 to print to it. Software driver installed OK, saw it but hit print nothing.

As far as Epson goes I called with a question of whether I needed to replace my scanner lamp and they would not even talk to me without fronting my credit card, which I declined and went to the store and bought an HP scanner which within manufacturer warranty the top lid needed to be replaced and they did free of charge. I used to purchase Epson products.

I had a cheapo Canon printer (S220?) that seemed to last forever
and was sad the day it died, ink was cheap too.

I would lean towards HP or Canon brands.

Since you don't seem to have made your choice yet, you might also want to take into account that the OpenPrinting website lists the Canon as a 'paperweight'.

If you want to check out any other printers, start from here:

    http://www.openprinting.org/printers

Not all printers are listed. They rely on people to try them and report their findings.

Not one of thoe models you listed, but I can confirm the HP Photosmart C309A wireless all-in-one printer works flawlessly in Ubuntu. My Kodak is now a paperweight as well since there is zero support from them for Linux

Not too sure about the wireless models, but Brother AIO printers work great with Linux (drivers in Ubuntu) and scanner drivers on their site. Been running a Brother DCP-540CN (wired network of linux and Windows machines)for the last 3-4 years, no problems.
